Our Summer Vacation
There may not be a House production going on this summer, but House company members are still up to some exciting things. What have these company members been up to? Find out (in both first, AND third person):
Ben Lobpries is about to return from another summer in Copenhagen, DK, where he has been working on his very first science fiction novel, The Adventures of Faggot & Feke! He gets back to Chicago just in time for The House’s Valentine Trilogy rock-a-thon at The Old Town School of Folk Music on August 16, then heads to Boston to begin a two year masters program at Emerson College.
He cannot wait to be back in the states and wrap his lips around a decent margarita.
I am going to Antarctica!!!! Other than that, I’m pretty much going to the doctor every day and starting to pack so that I can, in fact, go to Antarctica!!!!
Also, I’m turning 30 on Tuesday, July 28th. I will appreciate a phone call or email or text message.
In September I start rehearsing for Frankenstein (adapted and directed by Sean Graney). It’s going to be performed at the MCA in October. Very excited!
I’m doing a new play called Ski Dubai at Steppenwolf as part of the First Look repertory. It runs July 24th through August 9th.
And then I’m doing Superior Donuts in New York, on Broadway, in the fall. Opens October 1st.
Kat McDonnell is expecting her first child with her hubby John at the end of this October. It will be the biggest, most important production of her life.
I just completed writing on the first workshop production of “Girls vs. Boys,” concluding a long year of play-wrighting for The House. I’m looking forward to some time off and beginning work with Jake Minton on our next half-baked idea.
For the last year, Carolyn Defrin and Dennis Watkins have been engaging with the faculty and students at Bradley University in Peoria, IL to workshop and develop an adaptation of PINOCCHIO. Much like our partnerships with Hope College and Northwestern University, this has been valuable time for the creation of new work and this fall, Carolyn will direct Dennis’ work in a fully realized production at Bradley, replete with an original score by Kevin O’Donnell and a marionette spectacular by Tommy Rapley. Show opens November 5th and runs through November 15th, 2009.

I can tell you right now…the first thing I’m going to do after looking at these pictures is work on getting a tan. I will also be working on the Strawdog production of “St. Crispin’s Day”. I’ll be playing Pistol and the show opens on September 26th. Come check it out!
I’m horrified that this shirtless picture exists. Only for you, House, only for you…
